The beginning of Drift Cup 2009 season by PFD already past us.
In the first competition round on Saturday in Kielce Paweł Trela from Kager’s team got promoted to the final and after a fierce struggle came second.
Competition inaugurating the season were the first ones fought off by the new rules. One drift league was replaced by two, one of them Super Drift Series where only those highly placed contestants from last year’s round were admitted or those who gained a special licence before the season start. All in all there were thirty Drift riders on the starting line from them lucky finalist sixteen was selected on friday.
Paweł Trela representing Kager’s colours did not have an easy task to face. The route prepared on a large loop in Kielce was quite difficult and the competition determined. Beside those well known contestants there was a group of fresh ones who have got their licence just before the race and were presenting well. Paweł gave way his skills on the Friday’s afternoon, getting the best result, he was promoted to the top 16 on the first place. This gave him not only a feeling of satisfaction but also according to the new rules meant extra two points on his account for the general classification of the season. Mateusz Włodarczyk came second right behind Kager Drift representative and this name was to be remembered what turned out later on.
Saturday welcomed the participants with lots of rain and a wet track surface. While the audience was taking their places and the contestants started their practice rounds the clouds were chased away by sunbeams.
Eventually the time for pair ride came. The Kager’s Driver started form the high„C” with an admirable style of covering the warm up distance. This way was also well covered when being marked what gave him a reasonable points advantage and smooth promotion to the quarter final, there he showed what he’s got and went to the semi final. At this point our rider was the only one defeating the greatness of Japanese machines. The rest of the cars were taken straight from the drifting land but had to acknowledge the supremacy of completely European Brand BMW.
The audience gathered paid their attention mainly to the even level represented by the sixteenth. The contestants put in pairs drove close to each other without making any mistakes. In addition they were covering the track with high speed what made it look like an impressive synchronized ballet show for which the public in Kielce went wild.
Kager’s contestant driving still faultless after outpointing Marcin Mospink came to the final. His rival was to be no one else but Mateusz Włodarczak. Both of them for the second time came to the top of the classification during this tournament. When they perfectly covered the first stage of the track with Paweł on the lead the emotions on the stadium reached their peak. The judges had a hard decision to make during the second round when the contestants switched places. When the competitors almost simultaneously came round the first bend it was obvious that Pawel driving faster overtaking his rival who went into a deep skid. Unfortunately this made Wlodarczak quickly to lose the car speed. Therefore the Kager’s driver has to push on the brakes what turned the car around. That manoeuvre made Pawel come second leaving the first place to Mateusz Włodarczak, still Pawel deserves congratulations for an excellent drive.
Even though the second place is a result of a life time for Pawel in the drifting competition of that rank and makes a good prognosis for the oncoming season. As Pawel said it was better to loose in such a fierce race than to win in easier circumstances. That is why we strongly believe that the podium will more often be friendly to the Kager’s Motorsport contestants.
All Drift enthusiasts are invited to another drifting event during the second round of Drift Cup 2009 in a month time at Bemowo Warsaw.
